Introduction
The documentation associated with operating a Parsec Appliance is accessed via the Documentation link located under the SUPPORT banner.
There are two types of documentation provided to support the Appliance:
1. Community (Open to all users of the free Discovery feature as well as all paying subscribers for the full - feature software)
2. Enterprise (Only available to paying subscribers for the full - feature software)
Community Documentation
To access the Community Documentation perform the following steps:
1. Click on the Documentation link on the left side of screen under the SUPPORT Banner.
This will expand down to show all document support options.
2. Click on the Community link.
This will open open the Parsec Community Portal (outlined in orange) in the active tab.
The Parsec Community page is broken down into two main sections:
1, How can we help? (search feature) (outlined in yellow)
2. Knowledge Base (articles and FAQs) (outlined in blue)
How can we help? (Search Feature)
This search feature enables direct access to guides and tutorials using a keyword to identify potential resources.
Example:
The keyword "Discovery" will be used to identify all posted documentation that include this term.
To search by keyword perform the following steps:
1. Click in the Search guides and tutorials field to activate input mode.
2. Input the keyword (Discovery in this example).
3. Click on the Magnifying Glass icon or press Enter key.
This will post the results found for all documents and articles found containing the keyword "Discovery". In this example 13 search results were returned.
4. Click on the result link to access the associated resource. (In this example 5.1 Accessing Discovery Screen)
The first page of the article will be displayed.
Note:
Use the scroll bar to the far right (outlined in blue) to scroll down to see any additional information in the article, including comments provided by the user community.
To the right of the article are direct links to other documents or articles that contain the keyword.
Knowledge Base - How To's Articles
The knowledge base provides How to articles designed to assist the user in using the Discovery feature.
To access the "How To" articles perform the following steps:
1. Click on the How To's icon.
This will display the How To's home page.
This page is broken into three sections:
1. Appliance Configuration (outlined in blue).
2. The Discovery Feature (outlined in green).
3. Other Resources (outlined in purple).
How To Article Example - Appliance Configuration
Each article in this section defines the processes need to configure aspects of the appliance.
In this example the appliance configuration article "How to set/change the system DNS settings" will be accessed.
To access the "How to set/change the system DNS settings" article perform the following steps:
1. Click on the How to set/change the system DNS settings link.
The "How to set/change the system DNS settings" article will be displayed.
Note:
The process steps are included in the article and the sequence steps are called out by number.

Generate Manual PDF
There is the option to generate, download, and save a PDF of the articles available to a local file.
To generate, download, and save a PDF of the articles perform the following steps:
1. Click on the Generate Manual PDF link.
Once the PDF is generated the link will change to "Download Manual PDF".
2. Click on the Download Manual PDF link.
This will open up the PDF document in a new tab using Adobe Acrobat or a viewer program of user's choice.
3. Click on the Down-arrow icon in the toolbar located at the bottom of t he screen.
This will go to the PDF's "Table of Contents" which shows all the associated articles presented "How To's" page.
4. Click on the Download PDF icon.
This will download the PDF to the downloads folder on the PC and open the PDF in Acrobat Reader.
Saving PDF to Local File
There is the option to save a PDF of the articles available to a local file.
To save a PDF of the articles perform the following steps:
1. click on the File tab.
2. Click on the Save As option
This will open the Save as PDF pop-up window.
3. Click on the Choose a Different Folder... icon.
This will open a local browser pop-up window with the local file path inside.
Note:
The screenshot below is for illustrative purposes. The actual path provided is dependent on file location on the system in use.
4. Browse to the file location to have the activity log saved to.
5. Revise the file name (optional) to reflect the identity of the saved file.
6. Click the Save icon.
7. Click on the X in the How To's tab to close the PDF document.
8. Click on the X in the Acrobat Reader How To's tab to close the program.
This will return to the Parsec Community - How To's web page.
Other Resources
If there are additional resources provided for the use of the Discovery feature they will be listed under "Other Resources".
1. Click on the General link to access the General Resources page.
Currently there are no additional resources available at this time.
2. Click on the Parsec Community link.
This will return the display to the Parsec Comminity home page.
FAQ's
The FAQ section will provide articles as answers to those "Frequently Asked Questions". Many of these articles are posted by members of the Parsec Community.
To access the FAQ's section perform the following steps:
1. Click on the General icon.
This will open the General web page. IF there are FAQ articles posted they will be listed here.
Currently there are no FAQ's posted.
Comments Section
Scroll down to the bottom of the page to access any comments made by the community regarding the associated article. Any community member may add their comments regarding the content provided in the associated article or document.
Input the following to complete a comment to be posted:
1. Name (outlined in blue)
2. Email (outlined in brown)
3. Comment (outlined in purple)
Note:
By checking the box next to the "E-Mail me when someone replies to this comment" (outlined in green) enables the system to provide an automatic notification to the user when another user responds to the comment.
4. Click on the Submit Comment icon to input the comment to the Parsec Community portal.
Return to the Parsec Community Home Page
To return to the Parsec Community Portal home page perform the following step:
1. Click on the Parsec Community link.
The display will return to the Parsec Community home page.
This completes the overview of the documentation provided by the Parsec Community in support of the Discovery feature.
