Accessing Discovery Screen
The "Discover Now" function examines the systems for NFS and SMB system assets to create a "Discover" project and associated jobs.
To initiate the "Discover Now" feature perform the following process steps:
- Click on the Discovery link under the DATA SERVICES banner. This will expand to show the administrative options.
This will display the Discovery screen.
The discover landing page will show a row or grid of cards containing Filer (tStorageSubsystem in pxstore parlance) information from Storage System, each File card will show:
- The Filer Label (outlined in green).
- Other Filer Order Information (outlined in blue).
- The Count of All Associated File Storage Connections [(tProtocol) and Shares/Mounts (tFSShare)] (outlined in purple).
- Project Settings (outlined in brown).
Initiating Discover Now Scan
Note:
The Discover Now button will create a project for the associated Filer (clearing any previous Project/Jobs that may exist), and queue up its jobs in the scheduler.
All Scan Settings have been reviewed and verified prior to initiating a Discover Now scan.
In this example NFS - Rack 4 will be used to explain how to initiate the Discover Now feature.
- Click on the Discover Now icon.
Once Discover Now icon has been clicked, there should be a progress bar (outlined in green), and a "Download Report" button (outlined in purple). Scan progress is determined by completed scans over selected shares; even scans that result in failure are considered completed, scans that are pending, running or stopped count against progress.
The scan will start and post a system banner message of "Starting Discover Scan on NFS - Rack 4".
IMPORTANT:
Once a Discovery Scan has begun, the "Stop Scan" button can be clicked to stop all the associated jobs for the Scan Project. The current project and jobs will remain on the system, and they will preserve the current selections and settings for up to 5 days before they will be removed automatically.
When the scan is completed the banner message will fade away and the progress bar (outlined in green) will show completed with the status message of "examined 4 of 4 shares".
The progress bar (outlined in green) shows completion.
Notes:
- Each time the Discover Now button is clicked, any previously existing Discover project/jobs will be removed and new ones will be created.
- Old projects/jobs will be automatically removed after 5 days have passed as will old reports.
Under the Discover Jobs header will be listed the Jobs and project generated (outlined in purple).
