5.6 Add Storage System

Note:
This process will start at the "Discovery - Discover Files and Directories located in Storage Systems" screen.

The "Discovery - Storage Systems" shows the discovered systems and their associated scan settings.  

1. Click on the Add Storage System icon.

New Storage System placeholder is generated.

Input the following information.

Note:
The values provided below are for illustrative purposes actual values are dependent on the system configuration.

Input the following information:

  1. Label: Sample SMB System
  2. Vendor: SMB Drive Company
  3. Model:  SMB 1000
  4. Version:  1.0

2. Click on the Add System icon.

System pop-up messages shows "Loading Storage System Connection… please wait".

This will display the newly created Storage System entitled "Sample System".
3. Click on the Scan Settings icon.

The display will expand downward to display the Sample System - Scan Settings.
4. Click on the Add Connection link.

Completes the following fields  to generate the new storage connection:

  • Label
  • Protocol
  • IP Address

5. Click in the Label field to activate the edit function.
6. Type in Sample SMB Storage Connection.
7. Click on the SMB icon to select SMB as the desired protocol.

8. Click on the Add Connection icon.

The system will display the following message of "Loading Storage System Connection... please wait".

This will display the updated Storage System to show...

... protocol (SMB).
... Connections found (1 in this example)
... the number of discovered File Shares (in this example 30 shares were discovered).

The display will expand downward to show the scan settings connections found for Sample SMB Storage Connection.

9. Click on the refresh icon in the address bar to update the Storage System parameters.

Note:
The Discover Now icon is now activated.

Go to the Discovery Project and Jobs Dashboard article to generate Discover jobs.
This completes the adding of a storage system and connections using the Discovery process.
