5.1 Discovery - Adding a Storage System (Local)

Note:
This process will start at the "Discovery - Discover Files and Directories located in Storage Systems" screen.

The "Discovery - Storage Systems" shows the discovered systems and their associated scan settings.

  1. Click on the Add Storage System icon.

A new Storage System placeholder is generated (outlined in purple).

Input the following information.

Note:
The values provided below are for illustrative purposes actual values are dependent on the system configuration.

Input the following information:

  1. Label: Sample SMB System
  2. Vendor: OSNexus
  3. Model:  QuantaStor
  4. Version:  1.0

  1. Click on the Add System icon.

The System pop-up messages shows "Loading Discovery Data… please wait".

Note:
The newly created system will not be displayed automatically as there is no connect or file shares associated with it.

  1. Click on the show all Storage Systems link.

This will display any hidden systems without assigned shares (mountpoints) (outlined in blue) and the newly created Storage System entitled "Sample SMB System".

  1. Click on the Sample SMB System Tile.

The display will expand downward to display the Sample System - Scan Settings.

  1. Click on the Add Connection link.

Completes the following fields  to generate the new storage connection:

  • Label (outlined in blue)
  • Protocol (outlined in green)
  • IP Address (outlined in purple)
  • Enable Mountpoint detection scanning (outlined in brown)

  1. Click in the Label field to activate the edit function.
  2. Type in "Sample SMB Storage Connection".
  3. Click on the SMB icon to select SMB as the desired protocol.

Note:
The fields that are haloed in red, indicating these fields are required fields.

  1. Input address (172.22.13.100)
  2. Input Login ID (AD\parsec.backup)
  3. Input Password (associated with the Login ID)

  1. Click on the Add Connection icon.

The system will display the following message of "Adding System Connection… please wait.".

This will display the updated Storage System parameters (outlined in blue) to show...

... Protocol (SMB).
... Connections found (1 in this example).
... The number of discovered File Shares (in this example 31 shares were discovered).

  1. Click on the associated System Tile.

The display will expand downward to show the scan settings connections found for Sample SMB Storage Connection (outlined in blue).

  1. Click on the refresh icon in the address bar to update the Storage System parameters.

Note:
The Discover Now icon (outlined in blue) is now activated.

Go to the Discovery Project and Jobs Dashboard article to generate Discover jobs.
This completes the adding of a storage system and connections while using the Discovery process.
